A severe case of voter suppression — the North Carolina Supreme Court recently reversed several crucial voting rights decisions, enabling restrictive ID requirements for voting. These laws disproportionately impact people of color, who account for 37.4% of the state's population.

Did you know? Only 51 of 170 State Legislators are women.

Only 14% (17 of the 120) of NC’s State Representatives are black women. The U.S. Census estimate for the Black population in North Carolina in July 2024 was 22.1%.

In July 2023, a 12-week abortion ban went into effect along with a requirement that women must get an in-person mandatory counseling session within 72 hours of the abortion. The two-appointment requirement presents a significant barrier to abortion access for many women.
